Otūmoetai Renaissance

Retro soul meets modern living in this thoughtful, design-led renovation.

Perched high above Tauranga Harbour with sweeping views across the water, this 1980s home with 1970’s architectural lines, was already rich in architectural character. Our job was to bring that soul into the present day.

Working closely with the homeowner Barb and her granddaughter — an architecture student who helped design the plans alongside Parker Architecture — Falcon Build carefully restored this much-loved home from the ground up. Every decision was intentional, balancing respect for the original architecture with the comfort and functionality of contemporary living.

Inside, craftsmanship and creativity take centre stage. The 1970s vibes are strong. Think: curved oak walls, a sunken lounge with a sculptural brass laser-cut screen, hinuera stone and exposed Douglas Fir beams. Timeless design details bring a new sense of elegance. Throughout, we retained the home’s unique character while introducing light, flow and modern convenience.

For our team, this project was a celebration of intergenerational vision, design thinking and quality construction — and proof that when architecture is handled with care, its story can continue for decades to come.
